Victoria Magazine

Yesterday was hair day! I got mine trimmed and colored and Sara got hers cut. While waiting for my turn, I read a January 1994 copy of Victoria Magazine. I've seen others on the Internet mention the magazine but I'd never read a copy. I'm hooked. I brought the magazine home so I could share an article with Paul and I thought I would share one with you.

The article is about Carol Bolton. She owns a shop in Fredericksburg, Texas and "reminds us to use our heirlooms lavishly and imaginatively." I love it!

"Eye Candy" is what Carol calls items on the shelves of a hutch, on the walls, or framing a window.








I love this little quote from Carol:

"If you love it bring it out!" I'm going to remember that in 2008! Why buy a certain item because you like it and then put it away in a box.

Bring it out and enjoy it.

My Kitchen Shelf

I have a shelf in my kitchen where I display things I like. I always decorate it for fall and Thanksgiving, Christmas and winter. This past summer I decorated the shelf with a 40's theme.

In this photo you can see most of the shelf. The baby shoes are mine. The tea post is Lori's. The records are 33 1/2 LP's and were my mother's. The cookie cutter's were given to me by my mother in law.


Here's a close up of my baby shoes. The record is one of my favorites. Till then by The Mill's Brothers.




I found the radio on sale at Hobby Lobby summer of 2006. The Vacation Book was given to me in a swap with a Flickr friend names Mel. It is from 1941. The buttons are my grandmother's.

My Beautiful Plates!

Aren't these plates beautiful? I love them so much I just had to share them. In the 70's I was a girl scout and one year for a fund raiser we sold these plates. My Mother bought the Lord's Prayer and Jesus standing at the door.



Then when I married Paul, my mother in law gave me this matching plate with The Last Supper.


And again in August I had a great find in the antique store! I found these two matching plates for $2 each. They are both a house blessing. All the plates hang in my kitchen over my sink. I see them everyday as I do my dishes and work in the kitchen. They remind me daily of our Lord and His blessings!



I have no idea if these plates all belong in the same set. There are only markings on two of the plates. The markings are "Made in Japan" and "For Decorative Use Only". I wonder if back all those years ago when my girl scout troop sold these plates if we sold all of these and if there were more designs. Anyone ever seen these before?

My Pyrex Bowls

When Paul and I first got married and set up housekeeping in 1980 my mother-in-law gave me these three pyrex bowls to use in my kitchen. I have loved them ever since and have used them for everything from making birthday cakes, pancakes, beating eggs. Everything!!



When we were visitng John in Tennessee this past August I found this yellow bowl at an antique store in Kadiz, KY for $25. It goes with the the set. I was so tickled. I put it in layway at the store and John just brought it to me on his recent visit.



Here is the complete set. Looks pretty good! I can't wait to use the yellow bowl for baking cookies and such. Being a bigger bowl then the large green one it should offer a little more room for mixing!

This is a picture of the "another" set of three pyrex bowls you can buy. They're okay but................



I think I'll keep my more "colorful" set! I like it.


I found a set of these four bowls at another antique store in Kadiz, KY. The price was $50. There are several sets on ebay too. Going price anywhere from $36 up. From some research I've done on the internet it seems these bowls are vintage 1940's. They are a great part of anyone's kitchen and the sentimental value I have for them makes mine PRICELESS!

I'll think I'll keep them for at least another 20 some years! LOL!!!!

1st Day of September!

Today was a beautiful start to a nice three day weekend! A Happy Labor Day to everyone.

We worked in the backyard this morning. Triming, mowing the grass, and trying to get control of the morning glory and sunflowers!

Here are some lovely sunflowers! they made a quick and pretty flower arrangement.


Here is our patio from the back gate. See the morning glory? It just takes over! Everything! I think if we sat still long enough it would grow around us. But it is so pretty I hate to complain! Blessings to all. Have a safe and happy weekend.

If you look delicious up in the dictionary I'm sure the definition would be - Home Grown Tomatos. Our friend Tim's father grew these. Aren't they lovely?

I love shopping at Thrift shops, yard sales, & flea markets. You never know what you might find at a bargin price!

Pampered Chef medium bar pan

Maggie Ann asked about my medium bar pan from Pampered Chef. Here is a picture of the pan from the Pampered Chef website. I love mine. I use it just about everyday to bake anything from cookies to bacon. The mini spatula is great too! Just big enough to fit where you want it too! My pan doesn't look so clean and pretty because I've used it so much. It is very "seasoned" which is good. The more seasoned the better. Nothing sticks to the pan now. I don't even have to grease the pan. That's my kind of cooking!

I saw my first Robin!

Yesterday evening around 7 pm Lori & I saw our first Robin of the year. He was sitting on the electrical lines in the alley behind our house and he was singing a song for all those you wanted to listen. Our neighborhood is filled with kids and cars and dogs and they always seem to be making some kind of noise but as Lori and I were listening to the Robin sing there wasn't any noise. No cars, no kids, no dogs barking. I felt for a few minutes like we were living in the country. It was beautiful! God is GOOD!

My New Candle/Lamp

My new candle/lamp! Over the Christmas Holiday I won a gift certificate over to a local boutique. This is what I used the certificate for. Isn't it pretty? It is electric and has a place for 2 votive candles. You don't light the candles. The heat from the lamp melts the candles and they release their aroma. I'm using 2 apple candles today and they smell so nice. I've included a picture of what it looks like with the lights off. Makes a nice nightlight! Ann

Christmas Around our House

I've got my decorating done. Here are a few pictures. Our tree this year is an old fashioned tree. We bought new garland with popcorn, cranberries, and pine cones. I love the look. The lights are candle lights. They are nice but they don't always want to stay straight up. Glad they're not real candles. I'd have burnt the house down days ago. Of course Pepper, Sara's kitty, has had to play with the ornaments and the garland. She's had a good time doing her own decorating. Ann

Here is a picture of the new curtains we bought for the kitchen today. This is the picture from the package. We also bought new cushions for the chairs and new rugs. I love sunflowers and liked how they have them in a vase in the picture. So I did the samething with some artifical sunflowers from last year. I also bought a strand to hang on the curtain tops. The kitchen look like summer! Hopefully spring is not far away. I can't wait!
