Election, football, and our town

So the election is over. I'm glad! I feel like I can breathe again. I'm disappointed but we will just have to all wait and see what happens. Now I'm going to focus on family and work and try to get back into my scrapbooking and art.

Today was Homecoming Week in our town. If you're into football it's great fun. If you're not there are other things to do. I wrote about homecoming 2007 here. We always route for Allegany because that's our kids school. They didn't win this year but there is always 2009!


This is also a special time in our town of Cumberland. The town is celebrating World War 2 and our local veterans. Check back later for more.



The best news this week: Jackson rolled over from his back to his stomach on Friday the 7th!!!

Come And Sit A Spell!

I walk home past this house everyday and I think this porch looks so inviting. It just says to me "come and sit a spell". The house faces the afternoon sun and I'm sure the trees in the front yard offer much needed shade. Sad thing is I never see anyone sitting here. Maybe they are here sitting on their front pouch when I'm sitting in my own backyard enjoying the cool evenings.

What year is this?????

What year is it? We followed this car up Centre Street yesterday. I couldn't resist taking a picture. If I didn't know better I'd think I was back in the 40's!

Sunday biking!

Sunday we biked on the C&O Canal. It was a beautiful day.



This is a photo of Cumberland. I've lived here for 30 years this year! The V shape is called the Narrows. This was at one time called the "Gateway to the West". For more photos of this area look at the label for Photos. The other trail we bike, The Allegheny Higland Trail, goes through the Narrows and into Pennsylvania.

A Winter Walk

Paul & I took a walk on Friday on the new section of the Allegheny Highland rails to trails. This section of the trail just opened up to bikers and walkers. We had a very nice walk. The sun was shining but it was cold. As you can see from the pictures the sky was a brillant blue. We walked about 2 1/2 miles. This part of the trail goes through the Narrows. This is part of what was called The National Road. One of the first roads west. In the early 1900's there were 6 different transportation arteries through this narrow passage. Three different rail lines, a trolley line, and the road for cars. I have traveled this road all my life and this was the first time I ever walked were the railroad ran or was on the bridge. We plan to ride our bikes on the trail in the summer. Our local scenic railroad, Western Maryland Scenic Railway, still uses the rails. They run a steam train excursion every month except for Jan., Feb., & March. The outcropping of rocks is called "Lover's Leap". Indian legend says that the Chief's daughter jumped to her death with her lover from these rocks. Ann

Here is the street I use to walk home from work everynight. It is up a hill but it is a nice walk home. 

Here is the front of the house. A Christmas tree would be so pretty in the side bay window.  

This is a very nice house that has been needing some loving care and fixed up for a long time. Finally it is!

Here is a view down the hill. These are mostly the style of houses in our neighborhood. There are many 1/2 a double houses which is what we live in. 

Here is another nice house. This is on the opposite side of the street from the house on the hill. 

I've finally been able to take some pictures around my neighborhood. Our neighborhood is called North End. We have lived here for 24 years. This house sits up on the hill. There is a long driveway up to the house. I'd think it would be neat to live here except in the winter! They would have a great view out that front window on the second floor.  

My walk home from work today! Sunny but cold and very windy! But Spring is coming soon!
