I could live here!

I could live here! But then I would want to spend all my time sitting on the porch under the willow tree!

We went by this place today on a drive from Cumberland up to Hyndman PA. This is along a little country road at a place called Cooks Mill.

Oh what a BEAUTIFUL Saturday!

My Morning Glories have bloomed. Aren't they beautiful? I love them.

But you can see how they take over everything. It is quite a challange to keep the vines out of my flowers. So I just try to keep them for strangling anything and other then that let them grow where they want.

My chair on my deck is calling me to come and set on this beautiful Saturday. but it will have to wait a little bit. I've got some house work that needs down. Then I'm going to work on some art or scapbook pages and read my book.

I'm reading The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher. It is a wonderful book. I've read it numerous times but it never fails to fill me with joy and transport me to Cornwall and England.

Weekend Fun!

This weekend we attended a two day festival in Oldtown, Maryland. Paul did two of his talks during the festival. The first talk on Saturday was about the C&O Canal and the race with the B&O railroad to reach Cumberland in the 1880's and the second on Sunday was about George Washington and the Potomac River. Both were very interesting. The festival is small but was well attended by locals. I had a strawberry smoothie and it was delicious! Lori had funnel cake and shared it with us and it was delicious too. We hadn't had one in quite a long while. Today, Sunday, we also did some biking on the C&O Canal. We biked about 8 miles total and went through the tunnel on the canal at Paw Paw. Here are a few pictures from our fun weekend. Hope your's was fun too!

The west side tunnel portal. 3,181 feet long. We walked our bikes through here.

The east side portal.

These marks were made about 100 years ago. They were made from the tow ropes the mules used to pull the canal boats along the C&O Canal.

A quiet place on the Potomac River. That's West Virginia on the other side.

Some festival highlights!

Friday's Feast

Appetizer
Name a funny habit you have.

I like to watch movies with the captions on not because I'm not deaf but sometimes it's hard to understand what they are saying.

Soup
If you could instantly know how to play a musical instrument, which one would you pick?

I would love to play the piano. Especially at Christmas.

Salad
How long is your hair?

Right now it is about 1/2 way down my back. I've had it from long all the way down to my bottom and very short like a page boy.

Main Course
When was the last time you forgave someone, and who was it?

Probably my husband and I think it was last weekend.

Dessert
What is your favorite kitchen appliance?

My Pampered Chef medium size bar pan. I love it and use it almost everyday. I hope it's considered and appliance?

Stormy Weather

Last night (Tuesday the 12th) & tonight (Wednesday the 13th) we had really bad thunderstorms. Here are a few photos of the clouds on Tuesday night. These were the most awesome clouds I've seen. We were under a tornado warning for about an hour Tuesday night during the storm. We had rain, thunder, & lightening.

This is about 1/2 before the storm. Just starting to cloud up.

The rain started right after I took this photo.

Tonight, Tuesday the 13th, we had heavier rain then last night. The clouds didn't look anything like last night. We had heavy rain, hail, thunder, & lightening tonight for about 1 1/2 hours. We were only under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning tonight. Here are a few pictures of tonight. They aren't very good because it was raining so hard I could only stick my head out the door.

This is the street in front of our house. You can see how hard it is raining and there is hail in the rain.

This is my rock garden in the front with the hail.

The next 3 pictures are of the backyard. The aren't very good but you can see the hail in my flower pots. I won't have to water them for a couple of days.

Come And Sit A Spell!

I walk home past this house everyday and I think this porch looks so inviting. It just says to me "come and sit a spell". The house faces the afternoon sun and I'm sure the trees in the front yard offer much needed shade. Sad thing is I never see anyone sitting here. Maybe they are here sitting on their front pouch when I'm sitting in my own backyard enjoying the cool evenings.

I miss Mayberry
Sitting on the porch drinking ice-cold cherry Coke
Where everything is black and white
Picking on a six string
Where people pass by and you call them by their first name
Watching the clouds roll by
Bye, bye

John Wayne - The Quiet Man

John Wayne would have been 100 years old this past May and Paul & I have been having a John Wayne moviefest. He wrote about his favorite JW movies on his blog here and I was to do the same but with one thing and anther I didn't get the chance to make my list. So today I'm writing about my favorite JW movie. The Quiet Man. This movie is my favorite movie on any list. I love it and can watch it again and again. The characters are so life like and real to me. The love story between Sean & Mary Kate is beautiful. The scenary is breath taking and makes me want to go to Ireland someday. If you've never watched this movie do so. You won't regret it. It's a fun movie with a good story and no bad lanugage and in movies today that is pretty much unheard of.

**UPDATE**

I forgot to mention the movie also includes Maureen O'Hara. Another favorite of mine.

And since I'm to make a list of my favorite JW movies here it is:

1. The Quiet Man
2. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
3. McClintock
4. El Dorado
5. Chisum
6. Big Jake
7. The Hellfighters
8. The Wings of Eagles
9. Rio Grande
10. Rooster Cogburn

Friday's Feast

I've joined Friday's Feast and today is my first post. So here goes:

Appetizer
Name something you think is “the best.”

I think my kids are the best. They are so great! They each have a different personality and I know they love me. It is so fun having older kids now (25, 21, & 16). My girls and I have so much fun shopping and watching our favorite tv shows, and just being together. My son is just a joy to know. I love talking movies and books with him. They are the best thing to happen to me and my husband.

Soup
On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 highest), how stressed are you today?

Today was about a 2. Work was good. It's Friday. It's payday. Not bad.

Salad
What kind of cleanser do you use to wash your face?

Just plain good old water. It feels refreshing!

Main Course

Tonight is a blue moon! What is something that you believe only happens “once in a blue moon.”

Love at first sight.

Dessert
When was the last time it rained where you live?

It rained just about an hour ago. A nice rain with some thunder and lightening. Now I won't have to water my flowers.
